Joey Wilkins
Chief Geologist
Joey Wilkins is a 26 year veteran in mineral exploration whose focus has primarily been in the western hemisphere and in the porphyry Cu/Mo/Au environment. He has also dabbled in epithermal gold/silver exploration and industrial minerals. Upon finishing his undergraduate degree in Geology at the University of Arizona, he briefly ventured into sulfur exploration in SE New Mexico and West Texas before being shipped off to SW Nevada and SE California where he spent the next 4 years in borate exploration while with US Borax (a Rio Tinto subsidiary).
Between 1990 and 1996, Wilkins worked in the SW US working on epithermal to shear zone hosted gold systems, VMS deposits, then porphyry Cu/Mo/Au exploration with Kennecott Exploration in Arizona and New Mexico. During the 6 years with Kennecott, Wilkins was part of a team that discovered a deep porphyry Cu-Mo deposit called Arnett Creek, a system proximal to the Resolution porphyry Cu-Mo-Ag deposit. During that time, Wilkins strived to become a proficient geologic mapper and developed an eye for alteration assemblages while running various exploration and drilling projects throughout the Southwest United States.
In 1996, Wilkins transferred to Mexico to continue porphyry Cu/Mo/Au exploration with Minera Kennecott during which time he conducted work and managed projects throughout Sonora and Chihuahua along with all other northern and central Mexico states. Duties include drill management and geochemical analysis of the Penasquito Au-Ag-Zn-Pb project (a Kennecott discovery) and the nearby Salaverna Cu-Auskarn deposit while working in Zacatecas and on the Boleo Cu-Co-Zn strata form deposit in Baja Sur. A significant amount of time focused on project management in northernSonoraproximal to the Cananea porphyry Cu-Mo-Ag deposit.
In 2002, Wilkins returned to Arizona and consulted to various Rio Tinto Exploration groups for three years in the Western Hemisphere conducting porphyry Cu-Mo exploration in the central Andes of Chile and borate exploration in NW Argentina. Most of the work in the Chilean Andes was into remote country by horseback. In a departure from porphyry exploration, Wilkins managed core logging and sampling on the Eagle magmatic Cu-Ni-Au deposit in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for 3 consecutive summers and also worked in Minnesota on the Tamarack magmatic Cu-Ni-PGM deposit. Other exploration ventures include porphyry Cu/Mo/Au prospecting and mapping on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation inCentral Arizona.
Joey re-joined Kennecott Exploration in 2005 as a project geologist and managed porphyry Cu-Au-Mo exploration in Utah on the Stocktondeposit, proximal to Bingham Canyon. During early 2007, Kennecott directed the exploration group to conduct brownfield’s exploration program peripheral to Bingham Canyon, a project Joey co-managed until the end of 2008 while discovering a new porphyry system on the east side of Bingham. The program was geophysically intensive relying on MT, 3-D IP, and 3-D modeling of magnetics and interpretation of extensive underground mine data.
During most of 2009, Joey resumed consulting and worked in southern Utah examining CRD type deposits in proximity to porphyry related Cu-Au skarns and some time in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on silver exploration. This work was with a small company called Grand Central Silver Mines.
In early 2010, Joey joined Full Metal Minerals and became their chief geologist for mineral exploration throughout Alaska where he has worked a significant amount of time on the Pyramid porphyry Cu-Au-Mo deposit in addition to other Full Metal projects such as40 Mile, Rolling Thunder, and Grizzly Butte. As the Full Metal chief geologist, Joey has brought the company a wide variety of international experience, management oversight, and technical skills to further enhance the existing and outstanding exploration team. Joey is also shared with partner companies Revolution Resources, Inform Resources, and Valhalla Resources. The work with Revolution Resources was exclusively on gold exploration in the Carolina Slate Belt of North Carolina and more recently inMexicoon the newly acquired Lake Shore Gold Mexico assets which include epithermal Au-Ag properties inSan Luis Potosi,Chihuahua, Sinaloa, andSonora. Some of the assets include porphyry Cu-Au systems. The time with Valhalla was spent in Turkey and Romania assisting and developing drill targets on their porphyry Cu-Mo deposits and outlining gold programs inRomania.
